Cognex Vision Selected by Leading Computer Chip Manufacturer for Traceability Initiative
NATICK, MA, October 31, 2007--Cognex Corporation (NASDAQ: CGNX) announced today that a leading manufacturer of computer chips has selected Cognex vision for a large-scale traceability initiative. Cognex expects bookings for this project to total more than $600,000.
The customer will use Cognex MVS-8600™ systems to read 2D Data Matrix codes etched onto chipsets. The 2D codes are used to uniquely identify each chipset, allowing automated handling equipment to retrieve data for categorization and processing decisions. Information on each chipset is also collected and stored in a database, where it can be used to verify warranties and process any product recalls.
The customer selected the Cognex MVS-8600 system because it is capable of quickly scanning and decoding a complete tray of chipsets with high accuracy even when marks are degraded, and can also adjust to different product types without any hardware changes.
“Cognex won this project after a rigorous qualification process involving several suppliers,” said Dr. Robert J. Shillman, Cognex Chairman and CEO. “Cognex was able to show that we had the most robust system, as well as the best support, which was vital due to the customer’s short timeframe for implementation.”
Dr. Shillman continued, “While many ID readers can perform adequately on clean marks, Cognex IDMax™ software provides superior accuracy and higher read rates on codes that are worn or imperfect. This extra level of performance means that fewer good chips are rejected due to poor marking, which enhances the customer’s yield and reduces waste.”
