I have been working on a new Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tool from Cognex for its In-Sight® vision system and VisionPro® users called OCRMax™.  We recently released OCRMax and our customers have been very satisfied with the increased read rates and decrease in misreads on their production lines.

Everyone wants to know: how can OCRMax read character strings that other tools cannot?  The key is in the way the tool segments the character strings.  The tool segmentation process splits every string into individual regions that each contain one character. This segmentation process allows the tool to handle distorted, touching and variably spaced characters.  OCRMax is capable of handling common run-time variations in the characters on the production line. 

Another feature of OCRMax is its ability to let users control key segmentation parameters – this leads to further improvement in segmentation performance and the result is even higher read rates and fewer misreads.

Last but not least, OCRMax provides a very intuitive and easy to use training interface that makes training of font for both new characters and adding new instances to an existing character very effective. OCRMax users can also export and import fonts from external storage, making training easier and increasing the tool’s flexibility.  In addition, users can share the same fonts across multiple OCRMax tools, further streamlining and simplifying font management.
