Overview
This course introduces the fundamentals of barcode reading with a focus on the structure and behavior of the codes themselves rather than the hardware used to read them. Learners explore common 1-D and 2-D symbologies, including linear barcodes, Data Matrix codes, QR codes, and direct part mark (DPM) codes. The course explains how information is encoded and decoded, examines the key elements that make up a code, and highlights how factors such as print quality, contrast, image quality, perspective, and symbol size affect readability and decoding performance. Learners also gain an understanding of concepts such as modules, finder patterns, quiet zones, check digits, and pixels per module (PPM).
