Understanding Code 128 Barcodes
Specifications: A Code 128 barcode is made up of six key sections:
- Opening quiet zone – Blank space at the beginning of the code, sized according to other elements of the code.
- Start character & subcodes (128A, 128B, 128C) – Designates the code set and allows switching between sets within a single barcode.
- Set A: All capital letters and control characters
- Set B: Upper- and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols

- Data – Encoded characters, each made of three bars and three spaces.
